Farve on the Cover of Madden for 09

Not a bad choice. A show of respect for a great career. Adrian Peterson would have been another solid pick, or even Eli Manning to celebrate his Super Bowl win.

Gamespot Gives Mario Kart for the Wii an 8.5

One of their negatives is ” Nostalgia doesn’t save most of the classic courses from being boring.” Yeah, and Super Smash Brothers: Brawl got a 9.5 with just as many “nostalgic” arenas. Seems like they got a bit fan boy with the review for Brawl, and are redeeming themselves with Mario Kart.

No Wii or DS Price cuts in ‘08

Not surprising when the Wii is continuing to jump off the shelves. It seems the novelty has yet to wear off on Nintendo’s “Revolutionary” system. We’ll see how sales go with the dust starting to settle and the PS3 starting to get some of it’s flagship games finally out.

Spore Creature Creator Coming Soon

Not a big deal, just a way to create some more hype since they’ve delayed this game multiple times. If you pay 9.99 for the full version you’re a sucker.

Turn-Based, Anyone?

Every couple years there’s a new addition from a popular series you may of heard of, Final Fantasy. However, these latest games have been pulling away from its famous turn-based combat we’ve all come to love. Which now suffer, because the changes to combat have made them uninteresting and easy.

We have to wonder why there is this diverge away from the turn-based combat. The last Final Fantasy games to carry the turn-based combat was FFX and FFX-2 both of which condoned the best of turn-based combat. The formula was perfect, every new game they could alter the combat slightly by modifying the summons or adding chain attacks. Including other changes, such as how characters level up and gain skills to ensure enough of a change so annoying people, like me, wouldn’t bitch. Read More »

Spielberg Making His Debut In Gaming With Boom Blox

Steven Spielberg is ready to jump into the gaming market now with a new Wii game call Boom Blox. From these early images of the game the object is to stack blox and knock them down. Simple as that. With over 300 levels apparently and many characters to play around with on the game, its sure to be a hit with the kiddies.

The buzz around the net is pretty positive for the game. I for one will probably be buying this one just to give my son something easy to play. The gameplay looks extremely simple, but fun. Use the Wiimote to pick up blox and blow them up or knock them over. Everyone likes to make things explode and be destructive, plus its family friendly. So little Jimmy can go and blow shit up! Its a WIN WIN. Look for this game in stores sometime in May 2008.

Check out the trailer.

Most Anticipated Games of 2008

Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - April 27th

As the title suggests, Mario Kart is making its way to the Wii. Offering online play, a steering wheel, and a variety of different karts it’s one of the last big Nintendo games to finally arrive onto the Wii. Expect to see more of the same since previous players of this game will feel right at home with moderately updated graphics and few changes to actual gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3/X360) - April 29th

Grand Theft Auto IVRockstar’s most well known and popular game destroys lives on April 29th. Innocent bystanders, prostitutes, and pummeling hobos to a pulp with a bat merge to help relieve all that pent up frustration. It’s hard not to shoot your load when you talk about GTA IV: with an interesting new protagonist and story, taking over a New York version of Liberty City, bitch slapping the “next gen” feel onto the series, gunning you down in a multiplayer kill fest…..OHHH GOD!

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (PC) - May 20th

This game has one thing people are anticipating, combat, they’re trying to add a much needed dynamic to the way mmo’s handle it. There’s a lot Age of Conan is bringing to the table, how well they follow through with it will be the real test. Regardless of how well this game does, the elements that they bring to the mmo world will benefit future mmos. People will then see what works and what doesn’t, it only can get better from here right? ……RIGHT?!!?

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) - June 12th

Metal Gear Solid 4The overly delayed game that PS3 is in desperate need of will finally fill clutching hands on June 12th. MGS4 has been said to be the final game of the series, which has fanboys expecting perfection. Set 5 years later after the events in Metal Gear Solid 2, Snake will now have a large new ensemble of gadgets at his disposal. Along with the “No Place to Hide” motif the stealth aspect of this game looks to be much different than previous installments. This is definitely the exclusive title the PS3 has been in desperate need of since its launch.

Spore (PC) - September 7th

SporeMaxis had split off from their never ending Sims 2 expansions and decided to develop this jewel. Spore acts like a god game where you control the evolution of a species you mold together. As you progress through the five phases of the evolution; the style of play will change into what could almost be described as five games in one. Regardless of how good the ending product is, the creature editor, in itself, will be enough to keep plenty of people busy for months.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii) - September 16

This is probably the only thing close to an anticipated title on the Wii (it’s being released for just about every other platform, but lets forget about those). The ability to swing your wiimote around and pretend it’s a lightsaber has Star Wars nerds palpitating in the mouth. Star Wars games have been very hit and miss, with few successes like the Knights of the Old Republic. With any game coming out for the Wii, control is the most crucial aspect. Considering the amount of other platforms they’re releasing this game for, we may have a Spiderman 3 situation on our hands.

Gears of War 2 (X360) - November

Gears of War was a must have for Xbox 360 owners. Incredible graphics, intense gore, great gameplay, and competitive multiplayer earned itself Game of the Year. The highly anticipated sequel will have its work cut out for it, but has large potential to take over the Halo fanbase.

Fallout 3 (PS3/X360/PC) - Q4

Fallout 3Fallout 3 will be set approximately 30 years after the events of Fallout 2. The game will be a mix of first and third person view, which feels all too Oblivion like. Another thing to mention is that the combat will now be real-time with a dash of turn-based thrown in to spice things up (or maybe not). It will retain it’s open-ended exploration from it’s predecessor staging emphasis on a wide margin of alternate endings based on your actions. If you enjoyed Oblivion and wondered what it would’ve been like had it been made in a post-apocalyptic world, this is the game for you.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC) - Q4

Warhammer Online is a MMORPG coming to the PC to try to roll with the big dogs. It looks like it’s dawning the Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar strategy, which is to resemble World of Warcraft as much as possible. What Warhammer claims to be better at, something I’m supposed to care about, is realm vs realm which is their bread and butter. We’ll just have to wait and see about that, won’t we?!

Killzone 2 (PS3) - TBA

There is surprisingly a large amount of hype for Killzone 2 despite the initial game’s poor reception. The impressive graphical display is all that is noteworthy at this point. They have removed the HUD which adds a kind of increased realism, but this also means that it will likely condone the regenerating health that has become standard in FPS’ these days. Regardless, as long as they polish the game and work out any kinks or bugs that plagued the original, we could be looking at a successful counter to Gears of War 2.
