AMD Thinks PC Gamers Are Morons

Have you been insulted by a major corporation today? If not, then prepare to take it on the chin from AMD.

AMD Game badges will direct consumers “to solutions that are specifically validated for gaming,” Berry said. The standard AMD Game “user experience” target will be a system with 1280×1024-pixel high-definition (HD) resolution that can achieve 30 frames per second, Berry said. The AMD Game Ultra will be “beyond HD” at 1600×1200 pixels and 30 frames per second.

- Source

Now reading that, you might be wondering where the actual insult was, so let me break it down for you. AMD is going to “badge” systems with labels that are either for casual gaming or hardcore gaming. Meaning if you are one of the many morons who doesn’t research computers and hardware beforehand, then you will be delivered a steaming piece of AMD shit.

This is not to say that these AMD computers aren’t going to get you gaming at a reasonable level. But if you are too stupid to do some research before you purchase a machine that can cost you anywhere from 1,000 - 3,000 dollars, then you probably deserve one of these watered down pieces of shit. There’s no doubt in my mind that these machines will “get you by,” but if you are looking to get the most bang for your buck, then you’d be much better served doing the research and finding better options.

AMD has lost the hardcore market and is moving towards appealing to the masses. Intel has the better hardware out, and instead of continuing to battle, AMD is going to make it easier on themselves and sell to the Best Buy crowd.

DBZ: Burst Limit Demo

Ah yes, DBZ, the anime everyone loves to hate. Well at least the story, but these games do all right because it focuses on the one thing anyone cared about - the fighting. To be fairly honest, I hadn’t realized they still made DBZ games, but apparently that’s why they released this small demo before its release.

DBZ: Burst-LimitNow, I want to place emphasis on the word small, because you only get to choose two fights, and neither of them allowed me to turn into a blond killing machine. You get one fight with Goku facing off against Raditz, which I can only assume is the very first fight of the story. The second is Yamcha squaring off against 4 Saibamen (not at the same time, unfortunately). Well that’s just great, I can’t go Kaioken, Super Saiyan, or turn into a monkey, gg Burst Limit way to screw me.

Okay, so I suppose we can talk about the fighting, since that’s all you’ll be doing in this game anyways. If you’ve played any of the previous DBZ games you’ll feel relatively at home with this one (except I had to get used to playing with a 360 controller). Afterward, I can’t tell that they’ve added or removed anything from the core combat, except that your kai will recharge over time and after laying a hurting on the enemy. Which is nice, because it’s a lot better than having to charge up every time you do a teleport counter. The only other obvious addition is the Drama Sequences that arise due to certain conditions in battle - which raise or lower stats. The other are Battle Objectives which effect your rating at the end of the fight; that, I assume, has some point other than making yourself feel good.

The Conduit - How to Make Wii Owners Say: “Meh.”

As resident Nintendo basher, I’m here to present a new FPS for the Nintendo Wii. It’s called The Conduit, and if you are like me, you hadn’t heard of this game before. Well here’s some video that will, dull your socks off!

If you’ve had enough of those “realistic” graphics and are pining for the days of graphics on the Playstation 2, then this might actually appeal to you. I’m sorry, but the Wii controller is not a gun and it is never going to cut it for an FPS. When you have games that look like Gears of War 2 on the horizon and you put this piece of crap next to it, it’s like spitting in the face of Wii owners.

Here’s the problem Nintendo. You aren’t going to win in the graphics department, so you should never have a game that even tries to pretend to be realistic looking. Stick to the Nintendo basics. Add some shading and round out the pixels of a cartoon protagonist and throw him in a wacky animated world with various guns and weapons. Stick with what you’re good at, making games that feature Mario.

LittleBigPlanet, The Expensive Version of Garry’s Mod

So you have creative ideas, but you have no tools, skills, time, or mental capacity? You’re trying desperately to figure out what to do with your brick, otherwise known as the PS3? Well guess what, a game is coming your way just for you. LittleBigPlanet attempts to capitalize on the success of Garry’sMod - getting to screw around with physics and create your own devices.

Now surprisingly this game does have a single player aspect to it, but to be quite honest, I just want to create shit. The most attractive features of this game are definitely the creating and sharing, and the ease of use will let any Neanderthal accomplish this. The greatest aspect of this game is the ability to gather a bunch of people, throw them in a level, and let them all start creating a crazy concoction. It is definitely a unique title that looks like most anyone can enjoy, which means another great potential seller for the PS3.

Check out another video showing off more of its newer features shown, and help hold you over until its alleged release in Fall 2008 after the jump. Read More »

Savage 2 - Free Trial, First Impression

Let me break this game down for you. Put an RTS, FPS, and RPG elements into one game. Throw in a reasonably skillful melee attack system and you have Savage 2.

Go to Fileplanet.com and check out the FREE TRIAL: Clickity McClickington

A word of advice. USE THE TUTORIAL. This is a game of relative depth, so the usage of the tutorial by everyone will be a benefit for all the players involved. There’s a lot of characters to choose from, with plenty of abilities to learn. After utilizing the tutorial, go into practice mode and run through all the characters. Knowledge of the skills and spells is a must when battling it out in Savage’s hectic atmosphere.

I’ve been playing Savage 2 for a few hours now and so far, I’m impressed. I enjoy the melee classes, but of all things, I really like the healing classes. I’ve never enjoyed healing in any game before, but for some reason in Savage, healing doesn’t feel like a chore. You are in the fray, but you are helping your team out a great deal by healing your dying teammates. I’ve enjoyed my experience so far and will report back when I’ve experienced more of what Savage has to offer.

Wii Fit’s First Look… Pretty Shitty.

Take a look at this video to get a first hand look at how the Wii Fit will only make you lighter by removing 90 dollars from your pocket.

If the guy is doing exercises in jeans and a button down shirt, then it’s pretty safe to say that he isn’t breaking much of a sweat. While I will always be supportive of games that get kids to exercise, this one is probably not going to have you shedding pounds.

If you are looking for a real work out, consider getting the game Dance Dance Revolution. Yes, you’ll look like a tool, but you’ll look like a tool with sexy abs and beefed up calf muscles.

Fez: A New Take On 2D Gaming

Fez is the best thing coming from the indie gaming woodwork at the moment. The very awesome old school graphics really give the game a retro feel. This game even comes complete with awesome 8 Bit music. By the looks of the game itself, it could be played on any platform. The best part about this game is its ability to take that tight 2D side scrolling action and bring in the 3D aspect. Constantly in this game you will be forced to rotate your view of the world around you to see your next step in Fez. Lets hope this game hits the stores soon.

Nintendo Says There is No Casual Gamers. Uh, What?

Nintendo’s Euro Bureau Chief Laurent Fischer (Actually, he’s the senior marketing director. I just wanted to say Bureau Chief.) Has publicly stated the following:

“For me, you are a gamer or non-gamer,” he told CVG at Nintendo’s German HQ yesterday. “I think most of you know that you can spend ten or twenty hours on an internet flash game and have not realised. The guy who plays these games regularly - he’s a core gamer.”

- Source

Now I’d like to respectfully disagree. First off, Nintendo sucks. Secondly, the definition of a Casual Gamer is that they only plays games… CASUALLY. A Casual Gamer owns a system or two, plays an hour here an hour there, but otherwise doesn’t play very much. A Hardcore Gamer plays over 20 or so hours a week, is up on all the news, talks about gaming constantly, and so on.

“I don’t like this word casual so much. Because people consider that casual needs to be something easy. If you’re good at any game you can play at a high difficulty level.

“Take Tetris. There is incredible gameplay, it’s very simple, very easy to understand, but it’s also very different. I think a game can be a light enough to enjoy and for all gamers to become a core gamer on it.”

- Source

What the fuck is a Core Gamer? I swear, if people start calling themselves Core Gamers I might have to go on a murderous rampage.. In GTA. Who the fuck has ever defined a Casual Gamer as only playing easy games? I honestly don’t see why being a “Casual Gamer” is all of a sudden a negative. You play games, but you have restraint. Isn’t that exactly how most gamers should be? Instead of the 20 hour-a-day World of Warcraft guys who haven’t seen the sun in a month. There shouldn’t be any negativity placed on the term. Nintendo stating the fact that it is a negative, only exhibits that they know their system has been embraced by Casual Gamers, and they are trying to shake the title.

Guitar Hero 4 Drums - Prepare for Two Drum Sets

Well, there’s no doubt about it anymore. You will definitely not be able to use your Rock Band drum set for Guitar Hero 4. The new drums for GH 4 have SIX buttons (Two Cymbals, Three Toms, and One Foot Pedal), while Rock Band’s version have FIVE buttons (Four Toms, and One Foot Pedal.)

I do have to say though, I like what Guitar Hero has done with the drums. I don’t know why Rock Band didn’t have any cymbals with their set, because those are my favorite things to beat on when I’m pretending to know how to drum in a music store.

So the gauntlet has been thrown down by GH4. Will consumers have room in their hearts, wallets, and storage area for two pairs of drums? And will the people who were awesome enough not to buy Rock Band, laugh at the people who did?

I can answer the last one. Yes.. Yes, we will. MWHAHAHAHAHA.

Props to this guy for the image.
