I am ridiculously excited to bring you news of what seems to be a top secret project by SEGA. Well, not so top secret I guess, seeing as I first read about it on IGN. It’s pretty obvious by now that I am a huge SEGA fan, and an even bigger Sonic fan. So it shouldn’t surprise you when I tell you that this top secret project, dubbed “Project Needlemouse” is a revamped Sonic the Hedgehog game.
Revamped in which way? Sonic has been redone so many times it’s sickening, even to me. He’s been 2D, 3D, Super Saiyan, black, a bad Link look-a-like, and a Werehog. Do we as fans really want them to revamp our beloved childhood icon anymore? In this case, hell yes.
Project Needlemouse is currently promising to bring us that old school 2D nostalgia with a new 3D style graphics. Apparently I’m not alone in my complaints that Sonic was best when it was played in 2D. What’s interesting to me is that IGN reported SEGA putting up a teaser site for this new game. However, when you go to the site, it’s a fan site created by two game developers who are working on this project for fun! Apparently SEGA named their own project of the same theme, Project Needlemouse as well. Check out Jono Forbes and Matt Schoen’s “Project Needlemouse” web-page to learn more about their mission.
