Mass Effect 2 is one of my most anticipated titles next year, so this is one game I needed to play. It looks like the improvements they’ve made to this game are solid. What I played was basically a short linear combat sequence that had you taking on handfuls of enemies. The main difference was the amount of polish to the gun play and cover systems of the game. It also looked as though your squad might actually be useful this time around. The graphics also got a nice bump and enemy models don’t look as stiff as they used to.
There’s not a whole lot more to say about the combat, I was immediately reminded of the first Mass Effect. Arguably the best part of that game was the story, and it was hard to get an idea of that in this demo. However, it looks like BioWare wants people to know that they’re bringing the game play elements of the game up to par with the story; and at this point I’d say, mission accomplished.
