Net Raiders Strikes Again

Remember that 10 day re-authentication Spore and Mass Effect were going to use to combat pirates. Well thanks to loud mouthed elitists like ourselves, this is no longer an issue. Spore has announced that they will no longer be planning on using SecuROM’s re-authentication, and will instead be using a much improved modified version. Mass Effect has also decided to abandon the 10 day re-authentication as well.

This is why game developers should run their ideas by us before they release anything. We know what the people want, and if you disagree, you’re wrong. The good people at Spore must’ve heard my loud cries of anger, frustration, and demand for improvement on our latest radio show, because they’ve responded. The new system they’re implementing will be more tolerable, and will entail the following:

  • Online authentication of the game, upon initial install and launch
  • Re-authentication anytime a user utilizes the online features
  • No disc requirement to play the game
  • Installation on multiple computers (no limited installs)
  • Ability to play offline

I’d first like to commend a game that doesn’t require me to have a needless CD in my computer in order to play it. They have definitely seen the error of their ways and these are much more logical and reasonable methods of combating the pirating. There is no word of what Mass Effect plans to replace it with (who really cares?), but at least Spore is back on track.
